Future Focus is Hansard’s flexible premium plan for expats who want to pay in regularly, add lump sums or top up when they can. It is sold through advisers by Hansard Worldwide and Hansard International and sits between a regular savings plan and a single premium bond. This page explains what Hansard publishes about it, what it does not, and what to ask before you commit or if you already hold one.
It is general information for UK expats, not personal advice. Hansard’s product page is written for advisers and gives few figures. What follows comes from Hansard’s website and its schedule of monetary charges for 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027. Check every figure against your own illustration.
This guide sits under our section on regular savings plans for expats. See every plan we cover on our expat savings plan reviews page.

How Future Focus works
Future Focus is for people whose saving is not steady: you might pay in a lump sum when a bonus arrives, then top up in smaller amounts. Hansard describes simple, transparent, best-of-breed investment options and tiered charges with a loyalty bonus. Tiered charges normally mean the rate depends on the size of what you put in or the time it is held, so the amount and timing of your contributions affect your cost.
Hansard also claims market-leading returns against peers using public data as at 30 September 2024. That is a marketing comparison for a past date and set of assumptions. Ask to see the basis and treat it as a starting point.
Charges: what is published
| Charge (Hansard Worldwide, July 2026 to June 2027) | USD | GBP | EUR |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly service charge | 0.00 | 0.00 | 0.00 |
| Paid-up service charge | 0.00 | 0.00 | 0.00 |
| Switch charge per unit fund | 0.00 | 0.00 | 0.00 |
| Withdrawal charge | 0.00 | 0.00 | 0.00 |
No fixed fees does not mean no charges. The money is taken through percentage charges that are not published on the public pages: the tiered charge, any establishment or initial charge, and the fund costs. Withdrawals and surrenders also carry a bank transfer charge, and Hansard can raise fixed charges each year, normally on 1 July.
Adviser fees. Ask what your adviser receives, what they do for it and whether it can change.
Future Focus compared with Ascend and Global Select
Hansard’s three current products cover different habits. Ascend is for a fixed monthly premium with a monthly service charge. Global Select is a single premium open architecture bond. Future Focus is the flexible option, with no monthly service charge on the schedule. If you can commit to a steady premium for years, compare Ascend. If you are investing one large sum, compare Global Select. Our reviews of both are being added to this section.
Questions to ask
- What are the tiers, and which one would my contributions fall into?
- What is the loyalty bonus and what do I have to do to earn it?
- What would I get back if I cashed in after one, three and five years?
- What happens to charges if I stop paying in for a year?
- Which Hansard company would hold the plan, and what protection applies?
- How would it be taxed if I returned to the UK?
Tax for UK expats
An offshore plan does not make you tax-free. Tax depends on where you are resident when you withdraw or surrender, and if you return to the UK gains can be taxed as chargeable event gains. See our guides to offshore investment bonds and inheritance tax for UK expats.
